about how acupuncturists specializing in pediatrics use gentle needling

and non-needle techniques to help kids thrive.

A Gentle Approach for Every Age

We use playful, painless techniques that make treatment a positive experience — not something to dread. Your child always gets to choose what they're comfortable with.

Our techniques include:

  • Acupressure — gentle finger pressure on specific points

  • Laser therapy — painless light that stimulates acupuncture points

  • Tuina — therapeutic massage techniques

  • Magnets & ear seeds — small, painless tools placed on acupuncture points

  • Electric moxa — gentle warmth therapy

  • Fine acupuncture needles — only when your child is ready and willing (never without their consent)

For Babies & Kids (Ages 0–12)

Playful, quick, and comfort-first

Parent or caregiver stays involved throughout — because when your child feels better, the whole family breathes easier.

Sessions are shorter, flexible, and meet your child wherever they feel most at ease — on the table, in your lap, or playing on the floor.

There's no requirement to lie still.

Common reasons families bring kids in:

  • Colic, reflux & excessive crying

  • Constipation & digestive upset

  • Sleep difficulties

  • Allergies, congestion & immune support

  • Eczema & skin issues

  • Anxiety, big feelings & nervous system support

  • Recurrent ear infections

  • Growing pains & muscle tension

  • Bedwetting

  • Teething discomfort

  • Developmental support

  • Complex illness or genetic conditions

  • PANS/PANDAS (as complementary care)

How it works: Most children see improvements within 4–6 sessions. We start with weekly visits, then space out as symptoms improve. Children are resilient — they often respond faster than adults. We'll also teach you simple at-home tools like acupressure points and lifestyle tips to support your child between visits.

For Teens (Ages 13–17)

Respectful, empowering support

The teen years bring incredible growth — and sometimes overwhelming challenges.

We offer a safe, judgment-free space where your teen's voice matters. They collaborate on what feels right, and we balance parental involvement with respect for their growing independence.

What to expect: Most teens notice improvement within 4–6 sessions. We typically start weekly for 2–4 weeks, then move to every other week.

On average, teens complete about 8 sessions before transitioning to monthly maintenance.

We also teach self-care tools — acupressure, breathing techniques, and lifestyle adjustments — so your teen builds confidence and resilience beyond our sessions.

What to Expect at the First Visit

Before We Meet

For kids 12 and under, we start with a private parent consultation (video or phone) so we can discuss your child's health history and concerns in depth — without distractions. That way, when we meet in person, I can focus entirely on connecting with your child.

For teens 13+, you choose what works best: a private parent call beforehand, or everyone together from the start. If there are sensitive topics to discuss first, the private call can be really helpful.

The First Appointment

  • I'll introduce myself and show your child around the treatment space

  • We'll talk about what's going on and what they're hoping to feel better about

  • I'll explain everything in simple, age-appropriate language

  • We'll choose techniques together based on comfort level

  • Your child is always in control — I will never needle a child without their full consent

  • You'll leave with simple at-home tools to use between visits

Frequently Asked Questions

Does acupuncture hurt?

The needles are hair-thin — much finer than needles used for shots. Most kids and teens feel little to nothing, and many find treatment so relaxing they fall asleep. For anyone who's nervous about needles, we have plenty of effective non-needle options.

Does my child have to lie still?

Not at all. Treatments are flexible and meet your child wherever they feel most at ease — on the table, in your lap, on the floor during play, or seated comfortably. Children are active participants in their care.

How many sessions will my child need?

This varies, but most children and teens begin with weekly visits and see meaningful progress within 4–6 sessions. Children often respond faster than adults. We'll discuss a personalized plan at the first visit and adjust as we go.

Can I bring siblings?

Absolutely. We have a cozy waiting area with books and toys. Family members are also welcome in the treatment room. Nursing mothers are welcome to bring their baby and nurse or pump as needed.

Can my teen come alone?

Parents are always welcome. That said, teens often share more openly with some privacy. We're flexible — some families stay together, some prefer a mix, and some teens come independently. Whatever supports your family best.

Will acupuncture interfere with other treatments?

No. Acupuncture is safe alongside medication, therapy, physical therapy, and other care. It often enhances the effectiveness of other treatments. I'm happy to coordinate with your child's healthcare team.

How should we prepare?

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes. Eat a light meal or snack 1–2 hours before. Stay hydrated. Skip caffeine beforehand if possible. Bring any questions or concerns — and any relevant health info for the first visit. That's it!
