Acupuncture, along with other gentle East Asian medicine techniques, can support your child’s health by helping their body find balance and ease. Acupuncture works by regulating the nervous system, improving circulation, and supporting the body’s natural ability to heal.
In children, this can mean better sleep, smoother digestion, fewer colds, more stable moods, and improved focus. Treatments are always tailored to your child’s age, comfort level, and specific needs. For many kids, we use non-needle techniques like acupressure, pediatric massage (tuina), laser therapy, or ear seeds—safe, effective tools that support wellness without discomfort.
Studies have found that acupuncture is a safe and effective treatment for a variety of pediatric conditions including: pain, cerebral palsy, nocturnal enuresis, tic disorders, amblyopia, nausea and vomiting, digestive disorders, autistic spectrum disorder (ASD), and respiratory disorders. When preformed by a well trained acupuncturist acupuncture has a very low risk of negative side effects.

My first priority when working with children is making sure they feel safe and comfortable. Some kids are eager to dive right in. Others are curious but need time to ask questions, explore, and build trust. And some are very clear—they’re not ready for that kind of treatment, and that’s okay.
I honor all of these responses. Each child sets the pace, and I always follow their lead on what feels right for them that day.
Nothing is ever forced. Kids are always in control of how we move forward. And for those who prefer a different approach, I offer many gentle, non-invasive techniques—like acupressure, laser therapy, cupping, or ear seeding—that support their health just as effectively.
It is important to know that the acupuncture needles used for kids are extremely fine and are often completely painless when inserted. Many kids are surprised to realize the needle is already in. Now and then a point may be briefly spicy. In the words of a six year old “It feels like a tiny ladybug is on my arm”. Most children tolerate the sensation easily and many become deeply relaxed.

Not at all. Staying perfectly still just isn’t realistic, or necessary, for most kids. Treatments are flexible and meet your child wherever they feel most at ease. That might be on the massage table, playing on the floor, snuggled in a parent’s lap, or seated comfortably in their wheelchair.
Children are active participants in their care. They might help by watching the sand timer, saying the magic words to start treatment, or simply chatting about their latest adventures. Sessions are often playful, relaxed, and centered around making your child feel safe, supported, and involved every step of the way.

For children 12 and under, I require a brief phone or video call with a parent or caregiver before the first visit.
This gives us time to go over your child’s health history and your concerns in depth—so when we meet in person, I can give my full attention to connecting with your child. For children 13 and older, you have the option of scheduling a phone or video call ahead of the first visit to discuss your concerns privately, or we can all talk together at the appointment.
I leave this choice up to you—sometimes there are sensitive topics or parts of your child’s health history that may be easier to share without them present. Whatever you choose, my goal is to create a supportive space that respects both your concerns and your child’s growing independence. For all children, the first session is focused on building trust and creating a sense of comfort.
I take time to connect with your child—asking about their interests, friends, and favorite activities—to help them feel seen and at ease. They’ll get a tour of the space, a chance to explore the tools I use, and plenty of time to get comfortable. Treatment only begins when your child feels safe, supported, and ready to move forward. -
This varies depending on your child’s specific needs—there’s no one-size-fits-all approach. During the first session, we’ll discuss what kind of treatment plan might be most helpful, including how often your child may need to be seen and an estimate of how many sessions it could take to see meaningful progress.
Plans are always flexible. If anything changes along the way, you’ll be kept informed and involved in the process.
In general, most children begin with weekly visits. As symptoms improve, treatments can be spaced out accordingly.
Children are resilient and adaptable. They often respond quickly to treatment. This usually allows for noticeable results in a shorter amount of time than you might expect in an adult.

Siblings and family members are always welcome.
We have a cozy waiting area with comfy couches, books, and toys to keep little ones entertained. Family members are also welcome to join in the treatment room if that feels best for your child. When children are waiting in the front area, I’ll often lock the door to ensure their safety and give parents peace of mind—so you can focus fully on your child’s session, knowing everyone is cared for.
If you are a nursing mother you are welcome to bring your baby and nurse or pump as you need.
